The Minnesota Twins are getting some reinforcements before their series against the woeful Chicago White Sox. The Twins are fourth in their division and have had trouble with consistent offense, and they’ll be activating a key piece. It’s expected that the Twins will activate Carlos Correa off of the injured list ahead of Monday’s game, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Star Tribune. Correa is returning from an oblique injury after playing in 11 games to start the season. The team will also send Austin Martin to Triple-A as the corresponding move.

Twins Activate Carlos Correa, Option Austin Martin
With Carlos Correa activated, the team needed to make a move on their 26-man roster. The Twins opted to send down Austin Martin, who has struggled a bit in his first stint with the big club. Martin, 25, has hit .226/.294/.371 with one home run and six doubles across his 68 plate appearances. He mainly played in the outfield this season but can also play second base when needed.
The Twins have plenty of outfield help with Byron Buxton, Alex Kirilloff, Max Kepler, Trevor Larnarch, and Manuel Margot on the active roster. Martin is the Twins’ No. 15 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, but will see some more action in the minors.
What the Twins Can Expect
Prior to his injury, Corra was in the middle of a hot start to the season. He was hitting .306/.432/.444 with one home run, two doubles, and four RBI. Correa is in his third season with the Twins after signing with the team originally before the 2022 season.
Correa hasn’t quite lived up to what his production with the Houston Astros, but he hasn’t been an abomination. All told, he’s hit .262/.343/.434 with 41 home runs and 144 RBI with the Twins. While he hasn’t disappointed with the bat, even with a down season in 2023, the question for Correa has always been his health. Even when signing his second deal with the Twins, problems arose with his ankle during the physicals, causing him to forego signing with the San Francisco Giants and coming back to the Twins.
The Twins will get their everyday shortstop back, and hopefully, his bat will pick up where he left off. Since he went down on April 12th, the Twins have found a different gear for their offense and should continue to become more consistent. Since April 12th, the Twins are first in runs, second in wRC+, and fourth in home runs. With Correa back as their anchor, things are looking up.
The team opted to activate Carlos Correa without a rehab stint, accelerating his timeline a bit. In his absence, Willi Castro held down the everyday shortstop role, but will now work his way into the lineup at third and the outfield.
